Cyprus Honeymoons
Cyprus WeddingsTraditional Cyprus Weddings The Magic of Marriage in Cyprus... ... Romantic and Unforgettable! The magic of ..... Dream Honeymoons in Cyprus
Perfection. That sums up dream honeymoons in Cyprus, island of love and laughter. After your lavish wedding reception, you'll have an idyllic holiday, whether what you enjoy doing together is golfing, boating, diving, racing, sight-seeing, shopping, or just relaxing and being pampered with style in luxurious surroundings.
The people of both Northern and Southern Cyprus are famous for their hospitality, and in choosing your honeymoon spot you may feel that it is six of one and half a dozen of the other!
... and when it comes to romantic moonlit walks along the beach, this is definitely the case!
But in many other respects the two halves of the island have very different cultures and characters, and which location in Cyprus would make the perfect honeymoon holiday spot for you will depend on what kind of romantic getaway you like best.
Whether you choose Turkish or Greek Cyprus for your wedding, (for wedding formalities info, click here) the other half of this Aegean island is only a short wedding car ride away.
Limassol CyprusLimassol Port Heartland of Cyprus The city of Limassol, second largest in Cyprus, presents a fascinating mix ..... The beach resorts near Paphos are much longer established than the holiday villages in Northern Cyprus. A beach resort honeymoon typically offers golf, tennis, bridal beauty, spas and luxury shopping.
In Ayia Napa and all the surrounding villages there's a choice of excellent beach accommodation. You could spend your honeymoon in a luxurious villa, or in a 4 or 5 star luxury hotel. There's easy transport to nearby shopping, sight-seeing, restaurants, clubs and bars - in fact every holiday attraction.
Limassol has its own quiet charm, pefect for a gentle, dreamy honeymoon.
Nicosia is incomparable.
The ruins at Salamis are world famous, and and if you fancy spending your honeymoon poking around in archeologial sites, superb casino-hotels are also within easy reach.
At the opposite extreme, you could choose to spend your honeymoon tucked away in a former monastery - now a hotel - in the heart of the Troodos mountains.
However, for sheer ambience, it's impossible to beat the village square surrounding Bellapais Abbey, with its wealth of excellent restaurants, and nestling at its foot, the Bellapais Gardens Hotel. Bellapais, I must confess, is one of my favourite spots in Cyprus.
A short curve of well-nigh deserted mountain road away from the Abbey brings you to the newly-opened Bellapais View, a wonderful boutique hotel converted from a large historic villa, which has been expressly designed to provide the ideal setting for a romantic wedding followed by a superb reception and the perfect honeymoon holiday.
The patron is a dog-lover, but don't worry, his dogs are beautiful, friendly and very well trained (also normally kept well away from the guests).
One of the most striking things about Northern Cyprus, to me, is the Turkish Cypriot love of dogs. The local authorities actually take the trouble to round up the street dogs, take care of their health needs, tag them, and release them back onto the streets, where they pant peacefully up at locals and visitors alike. Strays, but you'd never know it. These dogs are glossy and well fed, and living outdoors in the warm Agean sun is no hardship for anyone!
The Bellapais View is a family business, and clearly a labour of love. Each of the 28 bedrooms is different, and the whole house is crammed with artwork and traditional craftwork.
Cost is comparable to the Bellapais Monastery Village Hotel, next door, where the staff are friendly and the individual rooms and bungalows are most interestingly scattered in mini-mountain-terraces. The costs are similar, but there's simply no comparison in the standard of accommodation offered.
The Bellapais View offers affordable exotic luxury, combined with all the charm of a warm personal welcome from small business people who've put their heart and soul into creating this designer hotel.
Kyrenia Harbour and Kyrenia Castle from the sea
Another 5 minutes drive along scenic and nearly empty country-lane type roads brings you to Kyrenia and its breathtaking harbour, overlooked by The Dome Hotel, last vestige of Colonial Britain in Cyprus.
The sea facing rooms on the ground floor of The Dome Hotel are amazing. If you choose this Northern Cyprus hotel for your honeymoon, at times you'll experience the sea literally lapping at your bedroom window. Some windows open onto a balcony where you can stand really close to the water, even closer than you would be if you were in a boat, an idyllic way to enjoy a honeymoon feeling of being alone together in a world of beauty. You can also enjoy the largest hotel bathrooms in Cyprus, and a gigantic bathtub built for two!
However, the Dome is not for the luxury lover. Once the haunt of Imperial Britain's ruling class, it is now sadly shabby, although still retaining an aura of "better days" in the sun.
In the autumn of 2006, the management at the Dome Hotel began a re-furbishment. This has been tastefuuly done, and the up-graded rooms are very comfortable. Sadly, the giant ancient bathtubs have been removed in many rooms, although the new baths are huge by modern standards, and it is still possible to book an unrefurbished room, although not for much longer.
A couple of months ago a golf course opened near Crystal Bay, about 20 minutes drive away from Kyrenia.
Cyprus WeatherHome I Love Cyprus BLOG I love Cyprus Video Cyprus At a Glance Island of ..... Crystal Bay overlooks a natural marina, with a complex of charming small developments springing up around the sites of both the golf course and the marina. A commercial marina will soon be built nearby.
Evergreen is the most painstaking of the developers, and the Crystal Bay View holiday homes offer outstanding value. In my opinion Crystal Bay is the best of the nearby developments. It is beyond doubt the quietest and most secluded. There's of well thought out developments near the golf course and the marinas, and so before too long, North Cyprus will rival the South when it comes to offering luxurious beach honeymoon settings.
And when it comes to beaches and romance, well...
... honeymooning in Cyprus, North or South, you're spoilt for choice!
