Kyrenia Castle faces the harbour at the far end, a historic survival of the city’s 7th century sea defences. The castle houses an interesting museum, a Byzantine church, and a shipwreck.

English magazines and newspapers, and the local English language paper, are on sale at quaint news-stands on the front.

A tip from the ex-pats is to choose your own meze from the local supermarket, which is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the harbour – with fascinating sights such as the Round Tower en route. You can feed a family of four full of delicious local dishes for about £6 (UK).

There are loads of Casinos in Northern Cyprus, and Kyrenia has several, all along the seafront.
Many boat tours leave from the Harbour, all offering a full day on the water and an excellent lunch for around £20(UK) per person.
Most Cypriots speak excellent English, and the islanders are not only charming and hospitable, but also delighted to point out all the best places to see.
It is well worth going on a guided tour –great outing are available at modest cost – and I highly recommend Discovery’s marvelous resident guide in Kyrenia, Fethi, who is knowledgeable, charming, and devoted to your comfort.
There is an excellent golf course nearby – about a 20 minute drive - along gorgeous and empty coastal roads.
Watersports abound. For family fun, there’s a pretty extensive Waterpark. And SCUBA diving nearby.
Most hotels in Kyrenia, and many of the apartment buildings, have both a pool and a tennis court.
The wonderful Dome Hotel has the best views, and a great terrace pool and bar to make enjoying them even more fun.

The Pegasus Hotel is home to the ex-pat club, and it’s worth dropping into their bar to have a chat with the Brits who’ve lived in Kyrenia for many years, since they’re always happy to give you lots of tips on enjoying Kyrenia to the max!
